The Exmoor Pony

Bracken

Sadly, our old gentleman Bracken was put to sleep on the 22/3/2007 at the age of nearly 25. One of the kindest ponies you could ever meet he was an Exmoor Pony Society Pony of the Month and here is the write up we did for him:

Bracken showed what a versatile pony an Exmoor can be. He spent about 15 years as a Royal (Dick) Vet trekking pony where he was always a gentleman and an extremely comfortable ride. When nearing the trekking section retirement age he was outwintered to one of the Riding for the Disabled (RDA) centres around Edinburgh where he proved himself to be a fabulously kind and gentle pony and much loved by those involved with him. He properly 'retired' to the RDA when the Pentlands winters became too harsh for him and continued to excel as an RDA pony. Unfortunately the circumstances of the RDA changed and Brackens future was uncertain so having known him as a trekking pony I bought him and he moved 'down south' with me.

He then went on loan to Jess who wrote the following piece about him….

Bracken is a 12.3h Exmoor pony.
He is my first pony and I love him very much.
I have had him for just over 1 year. I have never fallen off him before. He is a kind steady little pony, but he can be fast when he wants to be!!! Bracken is 24 years old. He lives at Curridge Green Riding Stables, which is where I got him on loan. In the winter he goes all fluffy and people laugh at him but I think he looks sweet. Last summer I won best veteran on him as well.I think Bracken is a fantastic pony and I love him to bits!!!
